| BACKROUND |
Ife North Local government was created in May 1989 from the defunct Oranmiyan Local Government, which was until then, the second largest local government in the old Oyo State.
The local government is made up of the historical seven (7) sister towns (known as Origbo Meje) comprising Ipetumodu, the headquarters, Edunabon, Moro, Yakooyo, Asipa, Akinlalu, Famia, and Isope, Isope has however, fused with Ipetumodu.
There are some other smaller villages like Oyere, Bambu, Ori-Okuta, Amukegun, etc. It has a total landmass of about Nine hundred and Eighty five (985) square kilometer.
The local Government is bounded in the North by Ede South Local Government, in the South with both Ife South and some part of Ife Central Local Government, in the West with Ayedade Local Government, also in the North with Atakumosa West Local Government and in the East with Ife Central Local Government area respectively.
According to 1991 National Population Census, the population of the Local government is about 129,996. It consists of Ten (10) Electoral Wards from which a councillor is usually elected into the Local Government legislative council.
The Local Government enjoys adequate rainfall annually with normal dry season periods and normal temperature, this could be said to be responsible for the predominancy of farming, though several others engage in a making clay pots, African black-soap, lumbering and host of other commercial activities.
There is no doubting the fact that the area is blessed with fertile land.
The people of Ife North Local Government are mostly Christians, Muslims and Afrelists i.e adherents of Africa Traditional Religion, (ATR). Other ethnic group such as Hausa, Igbo, Kanuris, Fulanis, Tivis, Idomas, Jukuns and several other groups are also residents of this Local Government.

Though practitioners of each of these religion believe that theirs is the best, trying to woe others into their own religion but not with aggression or intimidation, but with persuasion.
