INTRODUCTION:
Ife North Local Government Council of Osun State was created in May, 1989 from the defunct Oranmiyan Local Government, Ile-Ife, Oyo State in the South Western part of Nigeria. The council’s headquarters is located at Ipetumodu. It is made up of sister towns of Asipa, Akinlalu, Edunabon, Ipetumodu, Moro, Yakooyo and some other villages Like Oyere, Famia and other smaller settlements.
The local government area enjoys adequate rainfall annually with normal; dry season periods and normal temperature. This could be said to be responsible for the reason why the people of the area are predominantly farmers, though others engage in making of clay pots, African black soap lumbering and a host of other commercial activities.
There is no doubting the fact that the council area is blessed with extensive area of fertile land.
The people of Ife North Local Government are mostly Christians and Moslems while traditional religion worshippers also abound. Aside from this, the people are predominantly Yoruba but other ethnic group, such as Hausa, Igbo and several other ethnic groups are also resident in the area in large numbers.
The local government has a land area mass of about 985 square kilometers and its population was put at 129, 996 by the National Population Commission in the 1991 population census. It is worth mentioning that the figure.
The Local Government shares boundaries in the north with Ede South with both Ife South and some parts of Ife Central Local Government, in the west with Ayedaade Local Government, in the North West with Atakunmosa West Local Government and in the east with Ife Central Local Government are, respectively.
The Council is delaminated into (10) Wards from which a councilor is elected into the local government. |
